Assange's mum urges free speech

WIKILEAKS founder Julian Assange's mother Christine today called on the public to congratulate crusading journalists and beware of government trying to hide''the truth''


In a speech to about 80 people at a forum at the University of Adeladie's Elder Hall entitled Julion Assange-Journalist or Terrorist?Ms Assange warned against totalitarian governments.


''Without free speech we have not got anything.''she said.''If u see a journalist doing good stories  pat him or her on the back,If they are not doing good stories tell them so-personal contact is very important.''


Ms Assange was on of several speakers in the four hour forum which saw audience members demanding to know''the truth''



She said she was reasonably happy with the TV portrayal of her family but said she was artist rather than an activist and was not anti-United States as suggested  by the show.

Mr Assange,41 remains in the Ecuador embassy in London where successfully sought diplomatic asylum on June 19 after Swedish police moved to extradite him to face sexual assault charges.


He fear he will be extradited to the United States of face charges over publications on his website of secret US documents.
